Adios Muchacho!
Lane Kiffin was abruptly fired in the wee hours of Sunday morning after the team's charter flight taxied to the gate as his team returned from a 62-41 thrashing at the hands of the Arizona State Sun Devils. Kiffin had been the #1 whipping boy for USC as he lost his fan base, his team and more importantly games. He inherited a football program caught cheating and the NCAA slapped them with heavy sanctions. This is not the first time USC has faced the wrath of the NCAA for their cheating ways. The arrogant fan base demands nothing but their old glory days when Heisman Trophy winners dotted the sidelines and that damn white stallion raced around the track.
I'm no Kiffin apologist and I certainly am no fan of Southern Cal (they don't like being called that anymore) but the true villain of why this once highly esteemed football program has fallen as far as it has now resides in the Pacific Northwest. Yes, it's that gum chewing, smirking cheerleader, one Pete Carroll. He cheated and cheated until he was caught and fled for the millions Paul Allen and the Seattle Seahawks threw at him. And without even the slightest hint of remorse. I wish there was an NFL rule that prohibits coaches who put a university into NCAA sanctions from taking a NFL job until their prior university exits from probation. I'd pay to see that smirk wiped off Pete Carroll's face if that rule was in place today.
