Brackets - Day 1

Notre Dame busted the bracket early. First game of the first round. Unfortunately, it seems that the longer players stay at ND, the worse they get. I applaud their graduation rate, but some of the guys they've had recently have gone sideways or even regressed. If they're really pro prospects, they should consider leaving early. Oh well, I digress ...

Let's see if BYU and 'Nova can hang on.

Villanova hangs on. BYU wins in OT. Maybe we're back on track. So far, the Big East looks better on paper than on the court. With so many teams in the tourney, though, someone from the BE will get hot. I'm sticking with Nova to go all the way. Counting on the big guy from Georgetown - Greg Monroe - (that's not going to happen) to help the Hoyas knock off Kansas next weekend.

Looking forward to seeing the guard from St Mary's.

Allen from SMC turned out to be great against Richmond. I may have a new favorite team.

End of Day 1. The Big East goes down with a thud. I didn't think Georgetown - even with their late season collapses from the past couple of years - would roll over for the ninth placed team in the Mid-America Conference. Marquette was a surprise. They had their game in hand and let it go. They lost close games all year. Why would this be any different?

Baylor with their first win since 1950! Good day for basketball. One of these years the NCAA will act as an honest broker and let more deserving teams in. The representatives from smaller conferences did themselves proud. Get the big guys out of their home arenas and away from refs who see them all the time and they're quite vulnerable.
